Iran’s new supreme religious leader delivers his first message in writing

Iran’s new supreme religious leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, called for unity in a written statement read on state television and urged people to participate in Quds Day events.

Quds Day, held on the last Friday of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan every year, is organized to protest Israel’s control over Jerusalem and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.

In his message, Khamenei stated that the “axis of resistance” is an inseparable part of the core values of the Iranian Islamic Revolution and thanked Iran’s allies in the region.

The new religious leader expressed gratitude for the support of the “Axis of Resistance” in Yemen, Lebanon, and Iraq.

Khamenei also warned in his statement that Iran could target US military bases in the region. Appealing to Gulf countries, he said these states should close the American bases located on their territory.

“Clarify your stance against the aggressors targeting our beloved homeland. By now you must understand that the United States’ promises of security and peace are nothing but a lie,” Khamenei said, claiming that Iran’s attacks targeted only American bases without harming neighboring countries.

The new religious leader also stated that Iran would not refrain from avenging the blood of its “martyrs,” adding that if necessary they would demand compensation from their enemies and, if that proved impossible, they could target their property.

Khamenei stressed that Iran must continue its defense and stated that closing the Strait of Hormuz could continue to be used as a means of pressure.
