Drone attacks on Hewler: One killed and three injured

A security officer at the airport was killed and three others were injured in drone attacks on the city of Hewlêr (Erbil) in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). The attacks took place during the night, when several drones loaded with explosives were launched toward the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). According to Governor Umed Xoşnaw, Erbil was attacked a total of nine times by drones during the night.

However, most of the unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted by the air defense systems of the international coalition. One of the downed drones crashed near Erbil Airport. As a result of the impact, airport security officer Welat Tahir was killed. Three other security personnel were also injured.

Drone attack on military base in Baghdad thwarted

A drone attack was also reported in Baghdad. Air defenses intercepted two drones that were heading toward the Victory Base Complex. The attack occurred at around 4:00 a.m. The drones were intercepted by air defense systems before they could reach the military base at Baghdad Airport, where advisers from the International Coalition are also stationed. There were initially no official reports about possible damage or casualties in Baghdad.

Attacks linked to the US-Israeli war against Iran

During the attacks, security measures around military installations and important facilities in the Iraqi capital were increased. At the same time, drone attacks in the region continue. Iraqi militias close to the Iranian regime had previously announced that, as part of their support for Iran, they would attack US bases, facilities and personnel in Iraq as well as in the Kurdistan Region. Since then, rocket and drone attacks on targets in Southern Kurdistan have occurred almost daily. East Kurdistan parties with camps in the Kurdistan Region are also being deliberately targeted.
