Jiyan Women’s Assembly organizes events for 8 March in London

The Jiyan Women’s Assembly has prepared a comprehensive program to take place in London under the slogan “Rojava warê jinên azad e; em ê biparêzin!” (“Rojava is the land of free women; we will defend it!”) to strengthen women’s solidarity. The Assembly said this year’s events will emphasize women’s unity, the protection of cultural identity and the importance of international solidarity.

The Jiyan Women’s Assembly stated that the struggle for women’s freedom is not only a quest for rights but also the construction of a free life. It added that the collective organization of women represents the strongest response to the male-dominated system.

The March 8 events in London kicked off yesterday, Friday, with a film screening organized by the Jiyan Women’s Assembly.

As part of the program, the film “Jiyan’ın Hikayesi: Kadın Devrimi” (The Story of Jiyan: Women’s Revolution) will be screened at 18:00 on 6 March at the Kurdish Community Centre, 11 Portland Gardens, Haringey, London N4 1HU. Directed by A. Halûk Ünal, the film focuses on the women’s revolution in Rojava and the broader struggle for freedom. A discussion on women’s struggles will follow the screening.

Today, Kurdish women will participate with their colors and slogans in the Million Women Rise march starting in central London.

The 2026 Million Women Rise march and rally will take place on Saturday, 7 March, as part of International Women’s Day events. During the march in central London, women will raise their voices against male violence, inequality and femicide. The Jiyan Women’s Assembly will also take part in the march with Kurdish women’s identity, colors, and slogans.

The main program will take place tomorrow, 8 March at 13:00 at the Kurdish Community Centre, bringing together music, dance, poetry and exhibition activities.

The program will feature musical performances by Suna Alan and Ayşe & Gulan, a recital by the Kurdish Women’s Erbane Choir, a cultural and traditional clothing show, a davul and zurna performance accompanied by govend (a traditional Kurdish group dance), a poetry reading, a photo exhibition and solidarity speeches by internationalist guests. Stands featuring traditional Kurdish food prepared by women, as well as handmade knitting, jewelry and traditional clothing, will also be set up as part of the event.

The Jiyan Women’s Assembly stated that 8 March is a day to strengthen the shared struggle of women, expressing solidarity with women resisting around the world, particularly with the free women’s struggle in Rojava. Emphasizing that protecting and expanding the achievements of the women’s revolution is a shared responsibility of all women, the Assembly called on women and peoples everywhere to strengthen solidarity under the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom).
