The war, which began with the attacks launched by the United States and Israel on February 28, has entered its seventh day. As Iran’s retaliatory strikes have expanded the conflict across a wide geography, powerful explosions were reported overnight, particularly in Tehran and Beirut.
Trump: Ground operation against Iran would be ‘a waste of time’
U.S. President Donald Trump said that a possible ground operation against Iran would be “a waste of time.” Speaking to NBC News, Trump argued that Iran had already suffered heavy losses, saying: “They lost their navy, they lost everything they could lose.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi had previously warned that if the United States launched a ground operation, it would “end in disaster,” adding that Iran was prepared for every scenario.
Heavy bombardment in South Beirut
The Israeli army announced that it carried out 26 airstrikes overnight on the southern suburbs of Beirut. The attacks were said to target Hezbollah command centers and drone storage facilities.
Explosions in Tehran
Iranian state television IRIB reported that numerous explosions occurred in eastern and western Tehran following a large wave of Israeli attacks.
Tensions in Lebanon, the Gulf and Yemen
Tensions are spreading to multiple fronts in the region: Hezbollah called for the evacuation of settlements located within 5 kilometers of the Israeli border.
Bahrain announced that a hotel and two residential buildings were damaged in Iranian attacks.
The United States announced that more than 30 Iranian ships had been sunk as part of the joint operation with Israel.
Saudi Arabia reported that it intercepted three missiles and one drone heading toward Prince Sultan Air Base, where U.S. troops are stationed.
Qatar also announced that it thwarted a drone attack targeting a U.S. base.
In Yemen, the Iran-backed Houthis declared that they are “ready to launch attacks at any moment,” depending on how the situation develops.
Macron: France is not part of this war
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that his country would not participate in the conflict, saying: “France is not part of this war and will not be.”
Investigation into school attack in Iran
Meanwhile, U.S. military officials said that an attack on a girls’ school in the southern Iranian city of Minab, in which many students were reportedly killed, may have been carried out by U.S. forces, although the investigation has not yet been completed. Iranian authorities claim that 150 students were killed in the attack, but this figure has not been independently verified.
