DEM Party İmralı Delegation members Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar visited former HDP Co-Chair Figen Yüksekdağ at Kandıra F-Type Prison. A day earlier, they had met with Selahattin Demirtaş and Selçuk Mızraklı at Edirne F-Type Prison.
Speaking to the press in front of the prison, Pervin Buldan said they found Figen Yüksekdağ in good spirits and in good health, and conveyed that Yüksekdağ sent her greetings to women on the occasion of March 8, International Women’s Day.
Buldan stated: “Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş have full faith in the peace and democracy process. They want to participate in this process under free conditions. With all their means, they wish to work for the advancement of this process toward peace and democracy. We do not want to carry out these visits in prison again. Ending unlawfulness and creating an atmosphere of peace would increase trust.”
Mithat Sancar also emphasized that Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş have full confidence in the peace and democracy process and want to take part in it under free conditions.
Stressing that political imprisonment is an indicator of unlawfulness, Sancar stated that legal guarantees and democratic mechanisms must urgently be implemented in order to achieve lasting peace.
Sancar added: “Concrete steps must be taken in this direction as soon as possible and results must emerge. Let us once again convey this demand, through you, to the entire public, to the government, and to all actors. We firmly believe that we will be able to carry out the struggle for peace much more strongly under free conditions. Our friends share this conviction. Their hopes and morale are strong for this reason.”
