The Platform addressed the public with a press conference held at the ÇandAmed Congress Center. The statement, attended by many women, was read out by platform member Laleş Biçimli.
The statement drew attention to the growing atmosphere of war and chaos in the Middle East and said that developments in Syria and the attacks targeting Kurds are linked to the policies of regional and international powers.
The text said that the democratic administration built in Rojava has been targeted, adding that this constitutes a plan against the historical gains of the Kurdish people.
The statement also underlined that Kurds have resisted oppression and attacks throughout history and said that national unity has become a “vital necessity” under current conditions:
“In this period in which the Sykes–Picot Agreement is being renewed, national unity has become a vital and unavoidable necessity for Kurds. This is an obligation for every Kurd and every Kurdistanian. Kurdish politics is now confronted by the public with the question, ‘If not today, when?’ Kurdish politics must fulfill its responsibility.”
The statement also said that the resistance in Kobanê created strong solidarity and a common stance among Kurds, adding that artificial borders have lost their meaning.
The statement said that women will play a leading role in the construction of national unity and continued: “The most dynamic force in building democratic national unity is undoubtedly today the free women’s struggle of Kurdistan, with its worldwide struggle. The progress and leadership of women have laid the groundwork for the realization of national unity.”
The statement added that the Kurdish women’s struggle has created an important accumulation both at the regional and global levels, and underlined that a democratic unity based on women’s free will represents a strategic and historical step.
The statement said, “Today, achieving the democratic unity of the Kurdish people is a strategic decision based on the free will of women and is therefore a historic initiative. This strategy, determined by women on the basis of a social contract, is the guarantee of the common life of all differences, colors, and voices of the Kurds. Because the unity of Kurdish women is the mortar of national unity and the unity of a democratic nation.”
The Platform called on all Kurdish women to attend the meeting to be held on 2 March in Diyarbakır (Amed) with the spirit of “Women, life, freedom” (Jin, jiyan, azadî). The statement concluded with the slogans “Women, life, freedom” (Jin, jiyan, azadî) and “Long live the unity of Kurdish women” (Biji yekîtiya jinên Kurd).
