Prisoners in Dumlu Prison on hunger strike for 24 days

According to information obtained from the prisoners’ lawyers, at the beginning of December, the prisoners in Dumlu Prison in Erzîrom submitted collective petitions outlining the problems they were experiencing regarding prison conditions to approximately 15 civil society organizations and relevant institutions.

However, it was stated that no response was given to these applications, and that the prison administration initiated investigations against those who filed the complaints.

As a result, the prisoners first carried out a three-day action of refusing to participate in activities. Since their demands were not met, they began a rotating hunger strike as of February 2, 2026.

The prisoners’s demands

Among the prisoners’ demands are:

-The removal of the requirement to stand during meetings with representatives,

-An end to the practice of placing political detainees in separate and distant modules,

-Acceptance of requests for cell changes,

-And an end to arbitrary and disturbing search practices.

The prison administration has not yet made a statement regarding the issue.
