Internal Security Forces (Asayish) commander Mehmûd Xelîl (Siyabend Efrîn), Heseke province Internal Security Forces Commander Merwan El Elî, Aleppo province Internal Security Forces Commanders Mihemed Ebdulxenî, and Suraqa Emûrî traveled to the city of Afrin.
The commanders will hold a meeting regarding the return of the forcibly displaced citizens to the city.
The visit is carried out within the framework of the agreement signed between the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) and the Syrian transitional government on January 29, one of whose provisions includes the safe return of forcibly displaced citizens to their regions. During the visit, ensuring the safe return of those displaced from Afrin will be the main agenda item.
Hundreds of thousands of citizens forcibly displaced from Afrin, Shehba, Sheikh Maqsoud, and Ashrafiyah are currently staying in schools and mosques in the cities of Qamishlo, Heseke, Dirbesiye, Amude, Tirbespiye, Chilaxa, Girke Lege, and Derik.
On February 16, the Afrin Social Association, the Council of Displaced Persons from Afrin and Shehba, and representatives of the European Civil Society made a statement in Qamishlo regarding the return of forcibly displaced persons.
According to the statement, nearly 400–500 families from Afrin would return as the first group.
Sources report that the return date for citizens from Afrin and Shehba will be determined this week.
