The siege of Kobane by groups linked to the Syrian transitional government has now entered its first month, and essential life-sustaining supplies are on the verge of exhaustion. Medicines at the central laboratory affiliated with the Health Committee have also been almost depleted.
Laboratory staff member Ebdulrezaq Îbrahîm noted that one month has passed since the siege of the city began and that vital necessities are now beginning to run out. He said:
“Kobane is under a heavy siege. We are providing services to the public based on the means available to us and existing needs. Due to the siege, our medicines are now nearing exhaustion.”
Îbrahîm indicated that the remaining heart and blood pressure medications would be depleted within a week, adding: “We have very few medicines left. Heart and blood pressure medications will run out within a week, while the others will be exhausted within 20 days. If a solution is not found and the siege is not lifted, the laboratory will become unable to provide services.”
Ebdurezaq Îbrahîm emphasized that the siege on Kobane must be lifted, as even basic life-sustaining needs can no longer be adequately supplied.
