Kurdish activist Yasser Advaei, from the village of Selin in the Hawraman region, was arrested on 13 November 2025 after being summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence office in Sarvabad, Kurdistan Province, and is currently being held in the Ministry’s detention facility in Marivan, Kurdistan Province.
Since his arrest, he has been denied access to a lawyer and in-person family visits, and has only been allowed a few brief telephone calls, according to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).
In recent days, his family were informed that his detention order had been extended for an additional month.
Another resident of Selin, Souban Advaei, who had been arrested at the same time after being summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence office, was released temporarily on bail after 45 days in detention.
Yasser Advaei was previously arrested by the Ministry of Intelligence in June 2020 and released on bail after 45 days.
He was later sentenced to five years in prison on charges of “acting against national security” through alleged links to the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK). This sentence was later reduced to three years on appeal.
In February 2021, he was sent to Marivan Prison, from which he was released after serving his sentence.
