Syrian Interior Ministry delegation arrives in Hesekê, holds a meeting with Internal Security Forces

On Monday afternoon, a meeting began in the northeastern Syrian city of Hesekê between the Internal Security Forces of the Autonomous Administration and representatives of the Interior Ministry of the Syrian transitional regime. The talks are being held behind closed doors at the building of the Traffic Department and are still ongoing at the time of writing.

According to official statements from both sides, the meeting serves to implement the agreement signed on January 29 between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the so-called transitional government. Prior to the talks, Marwan al-Ali—appointed by Damascus as security chief of Hesekê province—and Internal Security Forces Commander Mehmûd Xelîl Elî (known as Siyamend Efrîn) spoke to journalists about the significance of the process.

Siyamend Efrîn stated: “We are now implementing the agreement between the SDF and the transitional government. The aim is to end the war and prevent further bloodshed, because this war has harmed both sides.” He recalled the heavy losses since the start of the Syrian war, noting that the population of northeast Syria has suffered more than 22,000 deaths and over 30,000 injuries since 2011. “These sacrifices must not have been in vain,” Efrîn said.

For organizational implementation, a committee has been established to coordinate the technical procedures. The committee is currently on site and will return to the capital once its task is completed. Marwan al-Ali said the meeting sends an important signal against targeted disinformation: “Today’s coordination refutes all rumors and the voices of those who seek to sow hatred. I am convinced that this process will resolve existing differences. The coming days will show that the situation is stabilizing.” No official details of the ongoing meeting have been released so far.
