Bekdaş: Rojava resistance has strengthened our people’s unity

Sema Bekdaş, spokesperson for the Democratic Union Party (PYD), said the attacks targeting Rojava are part of an international plan, adding that the people have resolutely sustained their self-defense resistance from the very first day.

Attacks are part of an international plan

Sema Bekdaş said the attacks against Rojava have been ongoing for around six months, noting that they were launched from the Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêxmeqsûd) and Ashrafieh (Eşrefiyê) neighborhoods. Bekdaş said, “These attacks are part of a process of change and transformation in the Middle East. Major transformations are taking place in Syria and across Kurdistan. What we are witnessing is the continuation of a broader plan targeting the region.”

Our people continue self-defense resistance on all fronts

Bekdaş said the people have maintained their resistance from the very first day and added: “All of our people are continuing their self-defense resistance across every city and neighborhood.” She said fighters have shown great courage and sacrifice on every front of the war, and saluted the resistance growing in Rojava, across Europe, and in all four parts of Kurdistan.

Bekdaş also said the Kurdish people’s struggle against ISIS terrorism, waged on behalf of humanity, has entered history. She said: “We salute this historic resistance of the century. The resistance our people mounted against ISIS terrorism in the name of humanity has been recorded on the pages of history.”

The people of Rojava do not accept surrender

Sema Bekdaş said war does not produce a lasting solution, stressing that attempts are being made to sow discord and division between regions because political problems remain unresolved. She said the interim administration in Damascus has, for the past year, sought to fuel fragmentation in Sweida (Suwayda), the coastal region, and North and East Syria, but added that the people have clearly demonstrated their stance against this policy.

Bekdaş said: “Our people want to protect their gains. The people of Rojava do not accept surrender. From the very beginning of the revolution, our people have shown great resistance and defended what they have achieved.”

Resistance has strengthened Kurdish unity

Bekdaş said the Kurdish people’s struggle has spread beyond the region, adding that people in Hasakah (Hesekê), Qamishlo, and across all cities continue to reject surrender. She concluded: “Today, our people living in Hesekê, Qamishlo, and all cities do not accept surrender. Through this resistance, our people have strengthened their unity.”
