Speaking on a special program broadcast on Sterk TV, HPG Commander Murat Karayılan said that the attacks launched on January 6 from Aleppo by HTS militias and the Turkish state are not “ordinary,” adding: “Clearly, this is a conspiracy and a major plan.” Karayılan said, “They wanted to redesign the region based on the Sykes–Picot Agreement… Now they have once again begun redesigning the region, starting with Syria.”
Karayılan emphasized that the attacks have the “approval of regional states and international powers,” stating, “This plan has been approved by regional states such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and even Jordan, as well as international powers like the United States, Britain, Germany, and France.” Saying that “there is no place for the Kurds in the new design,” Karayılan said the attacks on Rojava aim at creating a “second Mahabad.”
Referring in the interview to Abdullah Öcalan’s call of February 27, 2025, Karayılan said, “At the core of this call is peace and brotherhood among peoples. This conspiracy, however, promotes hostility among peoples.” Addressing the Turkish state, Karayılan said, “President Erdoğan and Devlet Bahçeli should know that there can be no peace with the Kurds over the corpse of Rojavayê Kurdistan,” and called on the public to take action to lift the siege of Kobanê and to establish a “permanent corridor between Kobanê and Cizîrê.”
