Women’s Committee: We will defend our land to the end

The attacks by the Turkish state and ISIS and HTS militias on Rojava continue. The Euphrates Canton Women’s Committee held a press statement at Free Women’s Square in Kobanê. The statement was read by Kongra Star member Cûrî Temî.

Drawing attention to the siege of Kobanê, the statement said: “For ten days, Kobanê has been facing a comprehensive military siege. This situation has led to extremely poor humanitarian conditions and numerous violations against civilians, children, and women. Hundreds of families have been forced to flee the city, and some are spending the night outdoors.

The city is living under siege. This has resulted in the obstruction of electricity and water services, as well as the suspension of some vital services in hospitals. The lack of basic necessities, medicine, oxygen, and baby formula, combined with instability in electricity, water, diesel fuel, and internet services, is further worsening the situation. Conditions are deteriorating day by day. Despite all these hardships and the suffering of the people, groups affiliated with the interim government are bombing civilians. Last night, the village of Qasimiye was bombed and many children lost their lives.

Today also marks the anniversary of the liberation of Kobanê, where women played a significant role in the struggle and resistance.

As the Euphrates Canton Women’s Committee, we strongly reject all forms of bombardment and siege targeting civilians, children, and women. We call for the protection of our people and respect for human dignity. We also call on the international community to intervene immediately to stop the massacres and the siege.

We will defend our land and homeland to the end; we will protect women and children.”
