Euphrates Canton issues statement about attacks targeting Kobanê

The Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Euphrates Canton issued a written statement condemning attacks and massacres targeting civilians. The canton administration stated that the occupying Turkish state and ISIS–HTS militias violated the ceasefire by attacking villages in Kobanê with heavy weapons and drones, and emphasized that the states guaranteeing the ceasefire must fulfill their humanitarian duties and responsibilities and punish the perpetrators.

The statement added: “Today (Monday), forces affiliated with the Damascus government carried out a massacre against a civilian family in the village of Xirab Hişk, affiliated with the district of Çelebiyê, resulting in 5 people being martyred and 5 others injured. In the village of Qasimiyê, affiliated with the district of Qenayê, one child was killed, and 3 children were injured. This is a very dangerous development and a clear violation of the ceasefire.

These two massacres constitute an explicit violation of all international laws and conventions. Targeting civilians is a war crime under international law and must be punished. Therefore, the international community, legal and humanitarian organizations must intervene urgently, punish the perpetrators of these massacres against civilians, and immediately stop the attacks.”

The statement underlined that “despite the ceasefire, forces affiliated with the Damascus government continue their attacks on villages surrounding the city of Kobanê. In these attacks, drones, artillery fire, tanks, and all types of heavy weapons are being used. This situation threatens the security and peace of the population and increases the risk of new massacres.

We call on the international community, legal and humanitarian organizations, and the states guaranteeing the ceasefire to fulfill their moral and humanitarian responsibilities by exerting serious pressure to stop these forces’ ongoing violations.”
