Francesc de Dalmases i Thió, a member of parliament for the pro-independence Junts per Catalunya Party in Catalonia, shared on his social media account the speech he made in parliament regarding the brutal campaign carried out against Kurds in Rojava and North-East Syria by Turkish-backed mercenaries and Damascus-affiliated HTS and ISIS militias.
The Catalan parliamentarian stated the following:
“They are being massacred, murdered, raped, and tortured right now. They are the Kurds of Rojava, the Kurds of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. The same Kurds who served as a wall between Europe and the Islamic State, the same ones who sacrificed thousands of lives against the most fanatical Islamism, are now suffering an ethnic cleansing that is being broadcast live to us.
There are no demonstrations, only too many complicit silences, like that of Spain itself, a military ally of the Turks who are massacring Syrian Kurdistan.
Yesterday we broke this silence because we will not be complicit in this ethnic cleansing, neither as Catalans nor as Europeans.”
