The Turkish state continues its attacks on Northern and Eastern Syria, carried out by ISIS and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) mercenaries. As the assaults on the region persist, the Kurdish people, their friends, and internationalists are expanding the resistance across all parts of the region within the framework of the declared mobilization. Those reacting to the attacks on Rojava are also travelling to the Rojava border to maintain their support.
Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) MP Sabahat Erdoğan Sarıtaş spoke to ANF and said: “Since January 6, Rojava has been facing a comprehensive attack targeting the gains that the Kurdish people achieved by paying a heavy price. The Kurdish people have been on their feet ever since. In response to these attacks, the entire Kurdish people have shown a powerful sense of ownership. People are standing across all parts of Kurdistan. Today, it has once again become clear that borders have no meaning for us. Once again, we have witnessed that the Kurdish people are defending their values and achievements.”
Sarıtaş said the attacks on Rojava are not directed solely against the Kurdish people and added: “The attacks on Rojava are not directed solely against the Kurdish people; they are also attacks on Syria’s unity. We see an attempt to impose war and chaos in Syria once again. However, the Autonomous Administration in Rojava also represents a way out for the Middle East. The Kurdish people are standing here today defending a shared and equal life for all beliefs and ethnic identities.”
Attacks aim to erase Kurdish gains
Sabahat Erdoğan Sarıtaş said the primary objective of the attacks is to target the gains achieved by the Kurdish people and continued: “The nation-state mentality is once again reverting to century-old codes. They want to leave the Kurdish people stateless, voiceless and without breath once more. The model the Kurdish people have put forward in Rojava has become an example for all peoples, and it is precisely for this reason that the attacks are intensifying. For months, we have witnessed how Alawites, Assyrians, Christians and Druze have been killed one by one. Therefore, these attacks specifically target the status achieved by the Kurdish people. At the same time, they are attacks aimed at undermining peace and shared life in the Middle East.”
Everyone hostile to Kurds is complicit in these attacks
Sarıtaş stated that efforts must be united to stop the attacks on Rojava and said: “Just as there were those during the Kobanê process who said, ‘Kobanê has fallen, Kobanê is falling,’ and were proven wrong, the Kurdish people staged a historic resistance by standing up for their values and their people. Today, those who say ‘Brother Sharaa (al-Jolani)’ have taken their place as a black mark in the memory of the Kurdish people. The Kurdish people have always come together in the face of attacks. Anyone who is hostile to Kurds, who refuses to recognize the rights and legal status of the Kurdish people, is a partner in these attacks and an enemy of those who defend peace.
As it always has, the Kurdish people will preserve their unity and defend their status. The people of Nusaybin (Nisêbîn) have once again shown today that borders hold no meaning for us. This is our call to all our people: defending Rojava is a value; it is a matter of conscience. We call on all our people to stand up for Rojava.”
