Thousands of people who were previously displaced from Afrin and Shehba and settled in Raqqa and Tabqa are now migrating to cities of the Jazira Canton following attacks by gang groups affiliated with the Interim Damascus Government.
So far, thousands of families have arrived in the cities of Hesekê, Qamishlo, Derik, Tirbespiyê, and Amûde. As the number continues to rise, authorities are unable to provide an exact figure.
According to information we received from the Afrin and Shahba Displaced Persons Council in Qamishlo, displaced people have so far been placed in some institutional centers, mosques, and 64 schools in the city of Qamishlo. Due to heavy demand, in some schools three families have been accommodated in each room.
Kurdish Red Crescent Heyva Sor a Kurd is trying to provide healthcare services to those forced to leave their homes. With mobile clinics, Heyva Sor a Kurd visits areas where displaced people are located every day.
A few local organizations have provided assistance to address the problems of those who have migrated. However, these organizations have only been able to help a portion of the displaced people in Qamishlo.
Only 30 of the 64 schools have been partially equipped with basic needs for refugees.
The Afrin and Shahba Displaced Persons Council in Qamishlo said that displaced people are in urgent need of aid due to harsh weather conditions and called on organizations to fulfill their responsibilities.
