Women in Kobanê: We will not abandon our city no matter what

For more than 10 days, fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) have been putting up fierce resistance against the Turkish state, the Syrian Transitional Government, and ISIS mercenaries in North-East Syria. Women in the Euphrates Canton have also joined the general mobilization, calling on young people in the four regions of Kurdistan to rise up.

A press statement made by Kongra Star Member Nadiya Hiso in Kobanê on Tuesday said: “We women will resist all forms of attack. As the women’s movement, we are declaring a mobilization and taking our place in it. We reiterate our promise to the fighters. This resistance is the honor of humanity; the oppression against humanity was defeated here, and this defeat was achieved under the leadership of the Kurdish people. They want to destroy this will in Kobanê too. We have promised to exist, and we will not give up this resistance. We made a promise, and we will resist to the end.”

The statement continued: “We call out to the Kurdish people everywhere in the world. In response to the attempts to annihilate the Kurds, our people must rise up and turn their steps towards Kobanê. The time for victory has come. Everyone has seen what these savages have done in Raqqa and Tabqa, and now Kobanê is under siege. We know them and we know who they are. They are launching merciless attacks against us, seeking to carry out genocide and massacres. Rise up now. We promise everyone that we will exist, and we are there. Jin, jiyan, azadî. Kurdistan is ours.”
