Ilham Ehmed warns against false reports of massacres in Hesekê

Ilham Ehmed, co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES), has warned against targeted disinformation in connection with the recently announced ceasefire. In a post on Platform X (formerly Twitter), she spoke of “completely fabricated reports of massacres in Hesekê” being spread by forces with an interest in the agreement’s failure.

“We call on people to be extremely vigilant. All reports of massacres in Hesekê are fabricated.” Ehmed’s statements came one day after the official announcement of a comprehensive ceasefire between the Syrian transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The 14-point plan presented in Damascus on Sunday provides for a ceasefire and the complete integration of the SDF into state structures.

According to Ehmed, the false information circulating is part of a campaign by “opposing actors” who do not recognize the ceasefire and want to deliberately fuel tribal conflicts and prepare new attacks on Hesekê and Kobanê. “We are sticking to the agreement and are committed to full integration,” Ehmed stated. At the same time, she stressed that the situation in Hesekê is stable. The population should not allow itself to be unsettled by deliberate provocations, she added.
