Three Heyva Sor a Kurd staff members abducted in Sheikh Maqsoud

In a statement, Heyva Sor a Kurd co-chair Dilgeş Îsa said that after contact was lost with three staff members of Heyva Sor a Kurd in the neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud, it was determined that they had been abducted by gangs affiliated with the transitional government.

According to Îsa,  abducted employees Ebdurehman Mihemed and Ramî Hisên Elî, were abducted along with ambulance driver Yûsif Henan Hikmo, and took them to an unknown location.

Heyva Sor a Kurd said that it is continuing its efforts, together with the International Red Cross and international humanitarian aid organizations, to exert pressure on the transitional government for the release of its staff members.

Heyva Sor demands release of its members

In a statement in front of the Heyva Sor a Kurd Center in Qamishlo, Heyva Sor a Kurd co-chair Hediya Yûsif and Heyva Sor a Kurd member Bawer Çolî, said: “As Heyva Sor a Kurd, we confirm that our team is fully engaged in humanitarian aid work and remains completely distant from any political or military matters.”

The statement emphasized that the detention of humanitarian aid workers constitutes a clear violation of international humanitarian law, which guarantees the protection of medical and aid workers during times of conflict, and continued with the following remarks: “We demand the unconditional and immediate release of our colleagues, that their safety be guaranteed, and that they be enabled to return to their humanitarian work. We hold those responsible accountable for any harm that may befall our staff.

We call on all international and humanitarian organizations to urgently intervene to ensure respect for humanitarian principles and to guarantee the protection of medical and aid workers so that they are not targeted or detained.”
