Militias affiliated with the Damascus government continue to shell the civilian Khaled Fajr Hospital the only hospital in Sheikh Maqsoud, using tanks and unmanned aerial vehicles, resulting in numerous civilians being injured.
The Sheikh Maqsoud People’s Council has called on the public to respond to the threat of massacre at the Martyr Khaled Fajr Hospital, which has been under attack by militias armed with all kinds of heavy weapons for the past three days.
The written statement on Saturday said: “We call on all the people of Sheikh Maqsoud to take to the streets, go to Khaled Fajr Hospital, and rally around our wounded citizens.”
The appeal comes in response to severe attacks on the hospital, which have been ongoing for three days. Troops and militias of the Syrian transitional government are attacking the medical facility with heavy weapons. The situation on the ground remains tense, with acute danger to staff, the wounded, and civilians present.
In a written statement earlier today, the Internal Security Forces said officials of the Damascus government militias claimed that there are tunnels beneath Khaled Fajr Hospital in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood, and that ISF forces are engaging in combat inside these tunnels.
“We categorically reject this claim in its entirety, as it represents a transparent attempt by these militias to distort the facts. We call upon independent international human rights committees to visit the hospital and directly observe the on-the-ground reality. The militias are using these allegations to justify their crimes against wounded civilians, women, and children inside the hospital, and to evade accountability for the crimes they have committed during their barbaric campaign, which continues for the fifth consecutive day,” the Internal Security Forces underlined.
