During a phone call with Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein discussed the attacks by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and affiliated armed groups on the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyah in Aleppo. The attacks have already claimed the lives of 12 civilians and left 64 others injured.
Hussein stated that thousands of Kurdish citizens were forced to leave their homes as a result of the targeted shelling of civilian residential areas in Aleppo, expressing deep concern about the escalating tensions.
The minister emphasized the need for an immediate cessation of hostilities and stressed that continuing negotiations between the Syrian transitional government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) is of great importance for resolving the issues and preventing further violence.
The Iraqi Foreign Minister stated that joint efforts are necessary to end attacks on civilians and ensure security and stability in Syria, warning that continued attacks would directly affect the situation in Iraq as well.
