Masrour Barzani: Attacks in Aleppo are aimed at ‘ethnic cleansing’

In a statement about the increasingly ongoing attacks on the Kurdish neighborhoods of Aleppo, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq, said, “The events in Aleppo and the targeting of Kurds with the aim of changing the region’s demographics threaten the lives of civilians and call into question both the authorities in Damascus and the conscience of the international community.”

Barzani stated that the attacks on Kurdish neighborhoods in Aleppo deeply concern them, emphasizing that “war and violence offer no lasting solution to any problem.” He stressed that no justification or excuse can permit ethnic cleansing.

The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region called on all parties to “take responsibility, protect the lives of civilians, and engage in dialogue to resolve issues.”

Barzani expressed his hope that the current governing structure in Syria would “evolve into a democratic and inclusive administration accountable to all the Syrian people.”
