Mardin Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, opened an investigation against Abdullah Güngen, a member of the Party Council (PM) of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party).
Güngen gave a statement in Siirt together with his lawyers on Wednesday.
As grounds for the investigation, Güngen’s participation in a press statement held at Peace Park in the Nusaybin district of Mardin was cited, during the period when he was the DEM Party’s co-chair for the Şırnak provincial organization.
In his statement, Güngen said that the press statement in question was carried out within the framework of the party program and stated that opening an investigation at a time when the Peace and Democratic Society Process is being discussed contradicts the spirit of the process.
Emphasizing that genuine peace is not possible without establishing peace and dialogue with the people of Rojava, Güngen said: “There are only barbed wires between us. But our language, our culture, our way of life are one and the same. It is impossible for us to live disconnected from them.”
