According to Kurtulmuş, time is running out for Turkey

The Parliamentary Commission for National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy held its 20th meeting in Ankara on Wednesday. In a press statement after the meeting, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş drew attention to the Israeli Prime Minister’s remarks targeting Turkey alongside the leaders of Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus, as well as the risk of the Russia-Ukraine war spreading to the Black Sea. He emphasized that these developments posed serious threats to Turkey.

Kurtulmuş argued that there was an attempt to encircle Turkey, in which case, the most important responsibility was to strengthen internal solidarity.

“Similarly, considering that the Russia-Ukraine war in the north is now about to spill over into the Black Sea, it is clear that Turkey does not have much time left to consolidate its domestic front and establish brotherhood, peace, and non-conflict,” he underlined.

“I am aware that brotherhood is not just words, but a step that must be taken by fulfilling the requirements of the law of brotherhood,” he said and added, “If we miss the spirit of this time, not only will the commission’s work fail, but unfortunately, Turkey will also have closed this historic door of opportunity. For this reason, everyone must fulfill their responsibilities.”

Kurtulmuş stated that the political parties represented in the commission maintained their own political stances but were nevertheless seeking common ground. He added that the cost of failing to reach an agreement was also taken into account.

Kurtulmuş expressed his hope that the ongoing efforts would yield positive results and called on all parties to take responsibility.
