The Press Center of the Internal Security Forces, responsible for Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêxmeqsûd) and Ashrafieh (Eşrefiyê) neighborhoods, issued a written statement regarding an armed attack targeting the joint security checkpoint at the Shihan intersection.
Armed attack repelled
The statement said the attempted attack carried out by armed groups affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government was repelled by the forces. The Internal Security Forces said, “The cowardly attack attempt by armed groups linked to the Transitional Government in Aleppo has been thwarted.”
Two people injured
The statement said that two members of the Internal Security Forces were injured in the attack targeting the joint checkpoint near the Shihan intersection in Ashrafieh.
It added that the forces acted within the framework of their legitimate right to self-defense, stressing that a controlled and restrained response was given in order to prevent the clashes from escalating and to ensure the safety of civilians.
We will not remain silent in the face of threats
In its statement, the Internal Security Forces said: “We are ready to stand against all forms of threats and provocations. We will take all necessary measures to protect our members and the areas under our responsibility. We once again declare that we will not remain silent in the face of any attack or threat.”
Artillery and mortar attacks continue
Meanwhile, according to local sources, armed groups affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government are currently carrying out artillery and mortar attacks on the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in Aleppo.
