In the first session of the Iraqi Parliament, expected to be held on December 29, the speaker and the two deputy speakers should be chosen. In this context, the Sunni Sovereignty Alliance (Siyade) issued a written statement regarding the process of selecting Sunni candidates for the parliamentary speakership.
The statement noted that Musena Samerayi and Mohammed Halbusi would be put forward as candidates for the speakership. It was also stated that the Sunni alliance would evaluate its parliamentary representation based on these candidates.
Meanwhile, Faik Zeydan, the President of Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, had previously stressed that, according to the constitution, the first session of parliament must conclude with the election of the speaker and their deputies, emphasizing that extending the process would not be possible.
