A statement issued by the Iştar Assembly of the Martyr Rustem Cûdî Refugee Camp in Maxmur, emphasized that we are going through an extremely historic and important period, and that this process must be strengthened through the struggle carried out for the freedom of women and peoples. The statement noted that the leadership of women is decisive for the success of this process.
The statement added that power centers in the Middle East are trying to deny women’s will, while women resist sexist and dishonorable attacks in all spheres under the slogan “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom). It was stated that the strongest response to attacks against women is seen in organized struggle.
The Iştar Assembly underlined that some circles opposing the process have recently increased their rhetoric and attacks, and that the attacks targeting Leyla Zana, who holds an important place in the history of the Kurdish people, should be evaluated within this context. The statement stressed that the attack was not only against Leyla Zana, but against all women.
The Assembly called on all women and honorable communities to take a stand against sexist and fascist attacks, to avoid giving space to provocations, and to assume responsibility for the construction of a peaceful and democratic society.
