Women’s organizations call for action against violations in Iran

85 human rights organizations, lawyers, activists, journalists, religious figures, the International Union of Doctors and Health Workers, the Campaign for the Protection of Political and Civil Prisoners, the Revolutionary Women’s Union, and the Global Network for the Freedom of Kurdish and Iranian Political Prisoners issued a joint statement in response to the increasingly ongoing violations and pressure on activists in Iran and Eastern Kurdistan.

“Iran is committing crimes against humanity through torture of prisoners, mass executions, international silencing, and restrictions,” said the statement on Wednesday.

The statement continued, “This negatively impacts the lives of millions of people and deprives the country of justice. The international community must use stronger language against Iran; this is a moral responsibility, and the United Nations must use all its power to ensure accountability and support institutions. At the same time, it must refer cases of human rights violations to the International Criminal Court.”
