Imprisoned human rights defender and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi spoke to Time Magazine about the situation of citizens under the pressure of the Iranian state.
Highlighting that the war in Iran is far from over, Mohammadi said: “The government is waging war against the people. Even if bombs are not falling, the people of the country cannot see real peace, because they live under a government that controls every aspect of their lives. The people’s peace has been shattered by constant surveillance, arbitrary arrests, torture, and the ever-present threat of violence. Peace is further destroyed by corruption and mismanagement.”
Mohammadi went on to state that peace is not merely the absence of war, but something that can only be created through democracy, stability, economic growth, social transformation, and the building of civil society.
Narges Mohammadi also added:“The united stance of activists has the power to create historic change.”
