Afrin resident M.S., tortured by militias, has died

M.S., a resident of Afrin who was abducted by militias last year in Turkish-occupied Afrin, has died as a result of severe torture.

M.S., who was abducted on 1 December 2024, was subjected to systematic violence during the 42 days he was held, leaving no part of his body free from signs of torture.

Toes cut off

It was reported that M.S., a 40-year-old father of three, had his toes cut off with scissors, was beaten with a whip across his body, and that the veins in his legs had lost their function. Because of the physical damage caused by the torture, M.S.’s health condition worsened day by day.

During his captivity, M.S. was subjected not only to physical torture but also to psychological abuse. When he was released, he was unable to recognize anyone or speak.
