The security situation in the village of Lacan on the Hewlêr (ERBİL) border remains worrying. According to information provided by local sources, the KDP set up military checkpoints on the road leading to the village and deployed additional forces on Thursday night. The KDP forces are reportedly monitoring the movements of the villagers.
Following the intervention in Lacan village, the people in Hewlêr’s Xebat district staged protests against the practices the residents of Lacan have been subject to.
Last week, a protest demonstration was held in front of the Lanaz oil refinery in Lacan village, demanding more job opportunities. Forces affiliated with the KDP intervened harshly against the protesters, killing one person and injuring 10 others. Another person injured during the protest in Lacan by KDP forces died on Thursday.
