Thirty-one–year prisoner Mehmet Sait Yıldırım, who is gravely ill, has once again been denied his right to conditional release at Izmir Buca Kırıklar Type F Closed Prison. Yıldırım, who was due to be released on 27 February, had his release postponed to 27 November during the first Administrative and Observation Board meeting on 18 February, which claimed he was “not of good conduct” and had “shown no remorse.”
During a second meeting of the Administrative and Observation Board on 25 November, similar assessments were made, and Yıldırım’s release was postponed for a second time, this time by nine months. As a result, his new release date has been pushed back to 27 August 2026.
According to information shared by his lawyer, Fatma Demirer, officials justified blocking his conditional release by alleging that Yıldırım “had not severed ties with the organization,” that he “directed his family toward the organization,” and by citing his use of the final words of Seyit Rıza at the gallows. Demirer appealed these arbitrary measures before the Izmir First Execution Court.
Objection rejected
The Execution Court rejected the objection and offered the following assessment: “In the evaluation conducted regarding the prisoner, each unit carried out its review separately, and these reviews were conducted impartially and in accordance with procedure and the law. Based on the findings, it was understood that the prisoner did not feel remorse and continued his organizational loyalty, and it was concluded that he might engage in the same offense if conditionally released…”
The court ruled that the Administrative and Observation Board’s decision dated 25 November 2025 was in line with procedure and the law and therefore dismissed Yıldırım’s complaint.
