‘Freedom for the Defense’ vigil: We will not accept darkness

Many bar association presidents and lawyers joined the action, where Ankara Bar Association Chair Mustafa Köroğlu emphasized that they would continue their struggle against interventions targeting the legal system.

Köroğlu said that in an environment where Constitutional Court rulings are not implemented, their vigil is “not merely a protest, but a defensive stand to stop the attacks on the law.”

Köroğlu noted that corruption in the judiciary and politics is no longer exceptional but has become systematic, stressing that the struggle is carried out not only for lawyers but for the rights and freedoms of all segments of society.

Köroğlu also underlined that the defense constitutes the first line of protection for citizens against the state and said: “This vigil is an expression of a country’s will to emerge from darkness and let everyone be aware of this: we will not accept this darkness. We will not consent by remaining silent.”

The demonstration concluded with slogans reiterating calls for justice.
