The KDP transferred a large military force to the village of Lacan in Hewlêr (Erbil). After the military forces arrived in the village, the residents of Lacan left their village due to pressure and threats from the KDP forces.
On November 29 (2025), the residents of Lacan organized a protest demonstration demanding that young people from the village be employed at the nearby Lanaz Oil Refinery and blocked the road leading to the refinery.
In response, armed forces affiliated with the KDP opened fire on the protesters, killing a young man. Following the incident, the KDP deployed more military forces around the village every day and sent a large quantity of weapons to the area.
As a result of threats and pressure from the KDP, the villagers were forced to leave their homes today. It is unknown where the residents went or what their fate will be.
