DEM Party co–deputy chair and press spokesperson, Tayip Temel, stated that well-known figures from many countries around the world will attend the “International Peace and Democratic Society” Conference, adding that they also expect Ilham Ehmed, co-chair of the Foreign Relations Department of the Rojava Autonomous Administration, to participate and that they are making efforts for this to happen.
The DEM Party will organize the “International Peace and Democratic Society” Conference in Istanbul on 6–7 December. Well-known figures from Kurdistan, Turkey, and many countries around the world have been invited. The conference will address the “Peace and Democratic Society” process initiated by Leader Apo. Participants are expected from many places, from the Basque region to Africa, and from Kazakhstan to Belgium. Ireland’s Sinn Féin organization will also be among the participants.
Temel told Ajansa Welat that “the “Peace and Democratic Society” process is that Kurds and other peoples are not denied. This historic process has been continuing since February 27. Most recently, the parliamentary commission also held a meeting with Mr. Abdullah Öcalan. The process tells us this: ‘We are in a new era, and this carries many distinctive features for the people of Kurdistan.’”
Temel explained that since 27 February, around 120 international philosophers, writers, and Nobel Prize–winning intellectuals have supported the process, and said that they want to openly discuss the main aspects of the process at the conference.
Am and content of the conference
Temel said that assessments by world-famous jurists and philosophers regarding Öcalan’s idea of Democratic Communes will be discussed, and that the issue of the “right to hope,” which he described as a universal right, will also be on the agenda.
Öcalan’s message will be read
Temel announced that names such as Georges Dallemagne, Noam Peache, Laura Boldrini, John Holloway, and Igor Zulaika from the Basque region will attend the conference, and stated that Abdullah Öcalan’s message will be read by Veysi Aktaş. He added that a final declaration defining the international diplomatic framework will be published at the end of the conference.
Ilham Ehmed expected to attend
Temel said they expect Ilham Ehmed to attend the conference and that they are working toward this: “If conditions and legal obstacles are overcome, Ilham Ehmed will attend the conference on behalf of the Rojava Autonomous Administration. If she cannot attend, she will send a message or participate via teleconference.”
Temel concluded by stating that they are carrying out efforts to convey Öcalan’s ideas more strongly to the international public.
