In a letter on behalf of the Apoist prisoners in Turkish prisons, Deniz Kaya celebrated November 27, the founding anniversary of the PKK, as the “National Resistance Day.”
The letter reads as follows: “As socialist communalist Apoists (followers of Abdullah Öcalan) who have followed the path lit by the three matches struck by Mazlum Doğan, and struggled with the culture of a generation that followed Kemal Pir, who said, ‘Knowing the world was not enough; it was also necessary to change it…’, we welcome the day of democratic socialist construction on November 27 with great excitement.
We owe today, which meets our leader’s will for transformation, to the unparalleled stance of our martyrs, their communal comradeship, and their legendary resistance. November 27, 1978, is a day that marks the sowing of the seeds of a new life in the Middle East and the world. With this breakthrough, the Kurdish people have created an endless novel with their culture of rebellion, prison resistance, and struggle in the mountains. This novel continues its march, opening a new page every day, led by women and imbued with a communalist spirit.
The faith, morale, and determination of the Peace and Democratic Society process have made the Apoist militant spirit even more invincible, showing the world’s peoples the bright path to a new life under women’s leadership. We embrace this new era initiated by Rêber Apo (Leader Abdullah Öcalan) and welcome November 27, pledging to our people and our martyrs that we will continue walking this path in this unfinished novel. Happy National Resurrection Day to Rêber Apo, our people, and the resistance fighters in prison.”
