Guerrillas celebrate the “National Resurrection Day”

In the mountains of Kurdistan, freedom fighters celebrated the anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on November 27, 1978. On the occasion of this “Day of National Resurrection,” various events were organized in the Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

HPG commander Yaser Dersim addressed a group of guerrillas during a celebration in the Medya Defense Zones.

The HPG commander began his speech by commemorating all the martyrs of the revolution. Emphasizing that November 27 holds great significance for them, Dersim said: “We should all see November 27 as a turning point. There have been many Kurdish uprisings throughout history, and occupying states have sought to divide and destroy the Kurds. When Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] launched this struggle, he declared that he would fight not just for one part, but for all parts, and that he would establish Kurdish unity. He acted on this principle. He drew on the experience of past uprisings and founded the PKK in this manner on November 27.”

The HPG commander continued: “The occupying states divided the Kurds, but the Leader united them. Leader Apo has been behind bars for 26 years, yet he continues to fight for peace, for the freedom of the Kurdish people, for humanity. When Leader Apo began the revolutionary march, there was nothing in the name of Kurdishness, nothing in the name of Kurdish culture. But Leader Apo sprouted and nurtured that withering tree in Kurdistan. He enabled the party to reach millions. We must understand Leader Apo very well and follow him very closely. When we understand the manifesto he wrote for a communal society, for a free society, we will know ourselves better and take a better step forward. We must be loyal to the leader and the martyrs, understand this process better, and strengthen the leader’s hand even more.”

We remember once again comrades Fuat, Rıza, Sara, Sofî, Sabrî, Koçero, and Masîro, who were part of the founding of the PKK, which is a movement of martyrs. Perhaps we never met most of these comrades; each of us came from different cities, there are people from different nations among us, but we are united by a common purpose. This is what frightens the enemy the most: our life, our philosophy, our ideology, our existence. If we handle this process correctly, we will make even greater strides. Once again, happy November 27 to Leader Apo and our people.”

The guerrillas celebrated the Kurdish National Resurrection Day by dancing all day long.
