The vigil launched on July 20, 2023, at the Şehîd Rûstem Cûdî Refugee Camp in Maxmur in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) to demand the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan continues on its 856th day with the 167th group.
The new group handover ceremony last night began with a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs of Kurdistan freedom struggle in front of the Maxmûr Committee of Martyrs’ Families.
Arvîn Kara then gave a speech on behalf of the 166th group and stated: “As is well known, we, as the Free Students’ Union, will continue our actions until Leader Öcalan’s physical freedom is secured. As his spiritual children, we will lead the process that began with his February 27 call and will definitely carry the process to victory.”
As students, we will fulfill our role and mission in building a peaceful and democratic society and organize our education on this basis. As young people moving towards freedom, we are handing over our action to the new group.”
The ceremony ended with the slogans “Bijî Rêber Apo” [Long Live Leader Öcalan] and Bê Serok Jiyan Nabe” [No Life Without the Leader].
