Al-Sudani: There are no political issues between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region

Iraq’s interim Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani spoke at the Sixth Middle East Peace and Security Forum (MEPS2025) about relations between the governments of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region and the process of forming the new Iraqi government.

Referring to the election process and efforts to form a new Iraqi government, al-Sudani said, “The elections were conducted in the normal course of events. Now all political forces are moving forward in accordance with the constitutional process to form a new government.”

Stating that there were no political issues between the governments of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, he said, “Significant developments have taken place, and issues such as company contracts and the resumption of oil exports have been resolved. We consider the interests of the Kurdish people to be equal to those of all the Iraqi people.”

Referring to efforts to form a new government, Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani announced that the Coordination Framework had decided to form the largest group in parliament and had begun talks with parties to form a new government.

Sudani continued: “The formation of the new government will be discussed between the parties in accordance with the constitutional process, and there is no justification for changing the distribution of the three presidencies in Iraq (presidency, prime ministry, and parliamentary presidency).”
