NCDK: We condemn the criminalisation of Kurds in Finland

The Finnish Democratic Kurdish Community Centre (Navenda Civaka Demokratik a Kurd – NCDK) reported that following the detention of three Kurdish activists on 3 November and several home searches, police conducted additional searches this morning at homes previously visited by the detained Kurdish politicians, seizing computers, phones and various personal documents.

In a written statement, the Centre stressed that the criminalisation of the Kurdish community’s democratic, cultural and social activities is unacceptable.

The statement said: “On 3 November 2025, in Finland’s southeastern region, Kurdish politicians Naim A., Ramazan K. and Metin Ç. were detained by the National Bureau of Investigation (Keskusrikospoliisi – KRP) as part of an investigation into ‘terrorism financing’. On the same day, searches were carried out in several homes as well as at the Helsinki Kurdish Community Centre. The fact that these detentions coincided with the visit of Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to Finland has added a political dimension to the process and raised serious public concerns.

This morning, a new and worrying development occurred. Police teams conducted searches in several homes previously visited by the detained Kurdish politicians, seizing computers, phones and various personal documents. These raids have caused deep concern and discomfort within the Kurdish community in Finland.”

The statement continued: “Finland is known for its commitment to democracy, the rule of law and human rights. However, recent practices cast a shadow over these values. The criminalisation of the Kurdish community’s democratic, cultural and social activities is entirely unacceptable.

As NCDK, Kurds of Scandinavia, we strongly condemn these raids and call on the Finnish authorities to conduct the process in accordance with the principles of the rule of law, justice and human rights.

We also call on all democratic institutions, human rights organisations, political parties and friendly peoples to stand in solidarity against these unjust measures. We believe that everyone who upholds the values of justice, freedom and equality should not remain silent during this process.

We demand the immediate release of the Kurdish politicians who are being unjustly held in custody and an end to the repressive measures targeting the Kurdish community.”
