People’s hospital opens in Qamishlo

The Health Committee of the Autonomous Administration of Cizire Canton (Cizîr) reopened the People’s Hospital, formerly known as the National Hospital, after renovation and restoration work. The opening ceremony was attended by representatives of the Autonomous Administration, canton councils and institutions, the Council of Public Figures, doctors and representatives of different communities in Qamishlo.

The hospital will offer its services free of charge and will consist of 12 departments, including internal medicine, emergency, burns, orthopaedics, nephrology, ear, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, emergency care, laboratory and radiology. In addition, the hospital has 10 clinics.

The hospital has been renewed and a specialised medical team of 60 specialist doctors and 60 general practitioners has been assigned. The Health Committee has also appointed 250 nurses and administrative staff to the hospital.

The hospital has 220 beds, 5 ambulances and a pharmacy.

All services at the hospital will be provided free of charge. However, computed tomography (CT) scans and MRI scans will be carried out at discounted rates.

Hesen Shero, Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Cizire Canton, stated at the ceremony that the Autonomous Administration works tirelessly to serve the people who have made great sacrifices for freedom and dignity.

Mohamed Cemil, one of the administrators of the Council of Martyrs’ Families of Cizire Canton, stated that the point reached today is the result of the sacrifices of the martyrs and said: “Thanks to the sacrifices of the martyrs, we have reached a stage where we were able to build our institutions, our councils, our organisations.”

Hospital Director Dr. Ciwan Heme also thanked everyone who attended the opening and said that they would be worthy of the sacrifices of the martyrs and serve the people with great dedication.

After the speeches, the hospital was officially opened by families of martyrs.
