Freedom guerrilla Çeko Ayhan: As long as Leader Öcalan is not free, the steps taken have no meaning

At a press conference held in Binarê Qendîl earlier today, the Kurdistan Freedom Movement announced its historic step to withdraw the guerrilla units from Turkey, seeking to pave the way for the Peace and Democratic Society process.

Twenty-five freedom fighters participated in the press conference, as well as Sabri Ok, a member of the KCK Executive Council, Vejîn Dersîm, a member of the YJA Star Serhat Provincial Command who came to the Medya Defense Zones from Northern Kurdistan, and Devrîm Palu, a member of the HPG Command Council.

Çeko Ayhan, one of the fighters who returned to the Medya Defense Zones from the Serhed region of Northern Kurdistan and joined the historic initiative today, spoke to Rojnews about the historic step of the freedom guerrillas.

Çeko Ayhan stated that the second historic step taken by the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas was in line with Abdullah Öcalan’s ‘Call for Peace and a Democratic Society,’ saying, “On this basis, as the guerrillas of Northern Kurdistan, we have begun to withdraw from the Turkish borders towards the Medya Defense Zones, particularly from the positions and lines sensitive to clashes. This step was taken against the attempts of the parties and forces that thrive on conflict and Kurdish-Turkish bloodshed and seek to disrupt the process. With this step, we aim to prevent malicious initiatives that endanger the process.”

Çeko Ayhan continued: “This step of ours should prompt the Turkish state to take clear and significant steps toward the peace process. The real step is the freedom of Leader Öcalan. As long as Leader Öcalan is not free, the steps taken have no meaning. That is why this is a very important step.”
