PUK and KDP fail to reach agreement on forming government

PUK Political Bureau Member Sedi Ehmed Pire stated that no agreement has been reached between the PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) and the KDP (Kurdistan Democratic Party) on parliamentary work and forming a government.

Sedi Ehmed Pire said that the two parties must first reach a common understanding on how the government will be formed, and only then will it be possible to activate the parliament.

A PUK official said, “So far, the PUK and KDP have not reached an agreement on opening parliament and forming a government.”

Although a year has passed since the parliamentary elections held in the Kurdistan Region on October 20, 2024, a government has still not been formed.

The KDP and PUK have met 12 times so far to form the 10th cabinet of the Kurdistan Region, but the talks have failed to produce results.
