The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) in Aleppo and forces of the Interior Ministry of the Syrian transitional government reopened the access road connecting the neighborhoods of Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maqsoud on Wednesday.
The road was reopened following the recent meeting between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and a delegation from the Syrian transitional government, which took place on October 20 in the city of Tabqa. Both sides discussed the tensions in the Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhoods of Aleppo and emphasized the importance of peaceful solutions to ensure the safety of the civilian population and prevent escalation.
A total of seven main roads connect the neighborhoods of Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maqsoud with other neighborhoods of Aleppo. All of these roads were closed on October 6. Following protests and public pressure, only three of these roads were initially reopened. With today’s reopening of the connecting road between the neighborhoods of Ashrafiyah and Sheikh Maqsoud, the Layramoun junction, the Jandoul junction, and Jazeera Street remain blocked.
