After the Assad regime withdrew at the end of 2024, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) took control of the town of Deir Hafir in the Tabqa region, and a civil council took over the reorganization and administration on March 1 this year. In recent weeks, there have been repeated attacks in the area by the self-proclaimed Syrian transitional government. The SDF accuses the government in Damascus of violating the terms of the March 10 agreement.
Armed groups affiliated with the interim government have once again targeted the town on Wednesday. A suicide drone struck the area around the ceasefire line between the SDF-controlled and Damascus-controlled territories. This new escalation against the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) is said to have taken place in the early hours of this morning and, according to reports so far, has caused only material damage.
The attack on the Deir Hafir border crossing comes amid repeated escalations in the DAANES areas. The sporadic attacks on the regions are apparently aimed at destabilizing security and stability.
The Deir Hafir border crossing is considered a strategic point connecting the cities of Raqqa and Aleppo. In recent months, it has been the target of bombings and attacks that have resulted in casualties and injuries among the civilian population, the SDF, and the Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria.
