84 people committed suicide in Mosul and Shengal in 9 months

According to the 9-month report of the Mosul Forensic Medicine Institute, 40 of the 84 people who committed suicide in Mosul between January and September 2025 were women, and 44 were men. On the other hand, 8 of the Yazidis who committed suicide were women and 10 were men.

The report did not include information on whether the Yazidis who committed suicide were from another region of Mosul or from Shengal.

According to information shared by the Yazidi Security Forces Investigation Commission with Rojnews, 16 young people, 10 male and 6 female, committed suicide in Shengal in the first nine months of 2025. The vast majority of the young people who committed suicide were between the ages of 17 and 25, and a 16-year-old was among them.

While the Mosul Forensic Medicine Institute report does not share detailed data on the reasons for suicide, according to data from Yazidi Security Forces, the main reasons for suicide include social pressures, psychological problems, and the negative effects of digital media.
