The Democratic Union Party (PYD) in Europe and the PYD Europe Women’s Assembly held their annual regular meetings at the Kurdish Center in Essen, Germany. The meetings, held on October 18–19, were attended by members of the leadership from many European countries.
These quarterly meetings addressed diplomatic activities, political developments in Rojava and in North and East Syria, and current affairs in a comprehensive manner.
The main agenda of the meetings focused on the goal of building a democratic and decentralized Syria. Participants evaluated the ongoing talks between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Damascus government, emphasizing that any solution must be based on a democratic constitution.
In a statement following the meetings, PYD Europe executives said: “All our efforts are for a democratic and decentralized Syria. We defend the identities and beliefs of all peoples. The work we carry out both inside the country and in the field of diplomacy proceeds in line with this understanding.”
The statement also renewed the demand for the physical freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan. Participants said they will work for a strong participation in the “Freedom for Leader Öcalan March” to be held on 8 November in Cologne. All PYD Europe members and assemblies were called on to make special preparations for the march.
The statement added: “We have been preparing for this march for a long time. This is a central action. Our call goes out to all our people living in Rojava, Bakur, Başûr, and Rojhilat: everyone should join this march. We will be a strong voice demanding the physical freedom of Leader Öcalan. The time has come; Leader Öcalan must leave prison and live freely among his people.”
The call especially invited the people of Rojava, women, young people, children, and the elderly, to join the march.
