Internal Security Forces in Sheikh Maqsoud report attack on a checkpoint

The Internal Security Forces in Aleppo has reported an armed attack on one of its checkpoints in the Kurdish-dominated neighborhood of Sheikh Maqsoud. According to the authorities, the incident occurred on Monday night and is being treated as a targeted assassination attempt. It is not known whether anyone was injured.

The Internal Security Forces strongly condemned the attack, holding armed groups associated with the so-called Syrian transitional government responsible. “We condemn the continued attacks and provocations against the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah,” it said in a statement on Monday. “Such attacks not only endanger public safety, but also deliberately undermine the fragile peace in the region.”

According to the Internal Security Forces, the attack was designed to deliberately create instability and “drive the region back into a phase of armed conflict.” The attack, it said, was part of a larger strategy to sabotage protective measures for civilians and existing ceasefires. “This incident shows once again that the attackers have no intention of complying with existing agreements or the local ceasefire. Instead, they are counting on escalation and insecurity.”

The Internal Security Forces announced that they would continue their mission to protect the population and maintain stability in the affected neighborhoods. At the same time, they called on all actors in the region to fulfill their responsibility to maintain internal peace and prevent further escalation.
